First cricket match

Never thought in my past that I will watch a live cricket in stadium. Thanks to IPL and T20 format game. I used to be one of the few Indians who doesn't like cricket.. of course, not any more.. As they say, "change is the changeless".. my "cricket quotient" changed from -ve... zero.. to a +ve number over a period of time. I hardly played any cricket in my school days and even never watched TV matches till college. Now enjoying matches in TV and finally a live match in stadium. Ramanan, Sridhar & I booked tickets for IPL match between Deccan Chargers (DC) Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Being a Gulti, I supported Hyderabd team and the other two supported Bangalore. I never thought watching a match in a stadium can be so enjoying... with all the crowd shouting slogans, making Mexican wave.. dancing like cheer leaders when there is a Four or Six even for a wicket :). In fact both the teams made it more interesting by making it a very close match. DC needed 18 out of 4 balls. The hopes came alive when the batsman hit 2 sixes in Kumble bowling. But they couldn't score 6 more runs in last 2 balls. It was a little disappointment that DC lost but ultimately Cricket won for me.

Spot light

Back to blogs after long time..
Usually, I don't like to forward mails unless it is very important. Everybody must read this. Donno whether Kalam has actually posted this or not. But it is very useful information.

To all those who do not TURN OFF their PC's before Leaving OFFICE

Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam

NOTE: THIS IS NOT TO HURT ANYONE.

Most of us in the IT field, do one thing before leaving for the day from office,
Pressing Ctrl+Alt+ Del and leaving to home happily.

One normal PC in the sleeping mode (Hibernation) will consume 35 watts/hr.
Based on this we will do a small calculation.
For one week 24 * 7 = 168 Hrs
Of this if we consider that we are working for 68 hours, then the PC is in sleeping mode for 100 Hrs a week.

For one month 4 * 100 = 400 Hrs
In a normal IT office, if we assume approximately 250 PCs are there,
250 * 400 = 1,00,000 Hrs (Sleeping Mode)

So the power wasted in an office per month is about,
100000 * 35 = 3500 KWH or units.

If the charge per unit is Rs.6, then totally the wastage value is
approximately 21000 Indian rupees.

Here the sad thing is not the money loss to the company but the power loss to the country. (No company is bothering about this procedure of keeping the system in sleeping mode)

Apart from the loss to the country we need to think of the efforts of the people for producing the power in the Mines, Thermal Stations, Hydro electric Stations, etc. If this continues, the cost of an unit power will go up & at one stage we will not get power even if we are ready to pay at any cost.

So before leaving office take some time to shut down the PC and do some favour to the country and the organisation.

If you feel that this point is to be considered, forward this to all your friends.

*** Do it once it will become a Habit... Good Habit...be a good citizen of India .....

What we fight for ?? What we don't ??

My friend Rammohan asked me to respond to this post on Ramsethu issue. Wanted to share in through my blog also.

we lack proper platform to protest. We need to clean our system first. The midset of people has to change. Only then we can progress better. There was an eenadu article that explains how bad we are at our civic sense. We don't clean our neighbourhood, we don't follow traffic rules.. lot more to mention.. I don't want to repeat them here. First we need to build our civic sense. Everyone of us want curruption free, developed india. But how many of us are actually thinking & trying for that ? We get inspired by the movies when we see them.. We get inpired when someone talks or forwards a mail about our India. But we forget after that. We need a constant source of inspiration. This thinking should be a continuous process. Speaking or writing words is very easy than implementation.

Our ancestors gave us incredible culture. Now it is very much diluted. Why are we running behind westren culture ? Are we thinking about yoga instead of joining gym for fitness ? Are we learning karnatic/hindustani music instead of westren music ? Why are we eating more and more pizzas, sandwitches though it is not suitable for us ? I was shocked to see an american in an arranged talk about Yoga in our company. He highlighted the importance of Yoga for physical and mental healthyness. This shows that time has already arived to learn our culture from foreigners.. Some of the quotes by famous personalities..

We owe a lot to the Indians, who taught us how to count, without which no worthwhile scientific discovery could have been made. - Albert Einstein.

India is the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend and the great grand mother of tradition. - Mark Twain.

If there is one place on the face of earth where all dreams of living men have found a home from the very earliest days when man began the dream of existence, it is India. -French scholar Romain Rolland.

India conquered and dominated China culturally for 20 centuries without ever having to send a single soldier across her border. -Hu Shih
(former Chinese ambassador to USA )

I don't think those people will say the same thing if they see present India. Isn't this shame on us ?

Regarding the issue of Ramsethu, Yeah we should protest it but before that there are so many other things which we need to address first. They have highest priority.
